QPR manager Harry Redknapp intends to add to his squad before the January transfer window closes on Thursday night.
Despite earning a hard-fought 0-0 draw at home to Manchester City on Tuesday night, Redknapp's side still lie three points adrift at the foot of the Premier League table.
Redknapp says the club is attempting to bring strikers such as Peter Odemwingie and Peter Crouch to Loftus Road but believes the squad as a whole needs to be strengthened.
"We need to strengthen the squad - tonight I had two keepers on the bench because there were no other senior outfield players here," Redknapp said.
"There are one or two lads who are here who want to leave as well, so we went through the numbers tonight and we've probably got about 17 (players) for our 25 man squad. We've got to fill it up a bit.
"We are desperately short in quite a few areas really, we do need some reinforcements."

Harry Redknapp Quotes of the week
Redknapp is preparing himself for a busy deadline day on Thursday but hopes to get some deals completed before the hectic end to the window.
He added: "It's not what I want. I wish we had a squad which didn't need strengthening and we could all go out for dinner somewhere instead of messing around like idiots on the phone all night.
"We'll have to see, hopefully we can get some stuff done tomorrow (Wednesday)."
Although he is eager to add some more quality to the QPR ranks, Redknapp was delighted with the way his existing players performed against City.
"We are setting up to be difficult to beat at the moment and they defended for their lives again today," he said.
"The keeper (Julio Cesar) when he was called on was fantastic - he's a top, top keeper - and on the break we offered a threat on several occasions. Adel (Taarabt) went through first half and (Loic) Remy second half, so I couldn't be more pleased with the effort."
Redknapp also heaped praise on defender Ryan Nelsen, who appears to have played his last game for the club ahead of his switch into coaching with Toronto FC.
He said: "He is a proper centre half. When he was at Blackburn I tried to sign him many, many times and finally I managed to take him to Tottenham last year. He's just been absolutely outstanding for us."
