Gary Hooper wanted by Norwich, Sunderland and Newcastle: Transfer Latest
The Celtic striker is currently being tracked by the four Premier league clubs but the asking price is proving a real stumbling block. It is rumoured that Celtic are after £8million for the in-form striker after Norwich have only offered £4.5million for the Englishman’s services.
Scunthorpe United fans will remember Hooper fondly who enjoyed two successful seasons at Glanford Park notching 50 goals in 93 appearances for the Iron. During Hooper’s first season at Celtic he had the best striker rate out of any player in Britain after netting 20 goals in just 26 league games. In just three years Hooper has netted 74 goals in 118 appearances for the Hoops.
Jermain Defoe is currently injured and may require surgery which is why Andre Villas-Boas is keen to bolster his striking options. Newcastle are still searching for a replacement for Demba Ba and Sunderland are way too reliant on Steven Fletcher to score their goals.
Robert Snodgrass is Norwich’s top scorer this campaign followed by Anthony Pilkington which suggests Norwich’s real struggle for goals. Norwich have only managed 24 goals in their 23 league games this season but still remain seven points clear of Reading in 18th.
Out of the four clubs, Norwich seem the most interested and with Grant Holt having only netted four times this season they appear desperate for a natural goal-scorer.
