Spotlight on Club Atlético Osasuna

FOOTBALL

Los Rojillos visit the Camp Nou after climbing out of last place this past weekend

With three new additions to the team - two of which might feature against the Blaugrana - Osasuna may indeed threaten Barça's hold on the top spot on the table

FORM GUIDE

It’s certainly been a rocky road for Osasuna this season. The Pamplona-based team lie in the 18th place of the table - up until last week they were at the bottom of the table -  on 18 points from 20 matches. However, these past weeks have seen Osasuna drop fewer points than FC Barcelona as they’ve claimed four of the last six points in play (against Real Madrid and Deportivo). Of their last five matches in La Liga they’ve won one, tied two and lost two. In addition, only three teams - Málaga (17) , Atlético Madrid (18), and Real Madrid (20) - have conceded fewer goals this season than José Luis Mendilibar’s men (21); Barça have conceded 23.

Andrés Fernández: “It’s not impossible to win points at the Camp Nou”

The Osasuna keeper Andrés Fernández issued a warning to the Blaugrana after his team defeated Deportivo de la Coruña this weekend: “it’s not impossible to get a good result at the Camp Nou. It will be very difficult but it’s not impossible.” As previously noted, Osasuna are in 18th, just one point away from climbing out of the relegation zone. It’s a situation that the forward Nino is well aware of: “any point we can get against Barça would give the team life.”

ONES TO WATCH

Osasuna’s back line - Rubén, Marc Bertrán, Arribas and Damiá (who cannot play due to suspension)- and keeper - Andrés Fernández - are the team’s foundation. While their position in the table may not indicate a strong defence, their number of goals allowed this season certainly does. Fernández is hot on the heels of Málaga’s Willy Caballero for the Zamora trophy. He’s only allowed 21 goals this season to Caballero’s 17. In addition to the team’s defence, Barça might have to deal with two of Osasuna’s newest players: Francisco Andrés Silva (midfielder) and Miguel de las Cuevas (mediapunta). Both of whom were brought in during the January transfer window. Ricardo Lopez (keeper) is also new to Osasuna, but it’s unlikely he’ll feature against the Blaugrana on Sunday.
