Cristiano Ronaldo to get richer and happier

Cristiano Ronaldo to get richer and happier

Cristiano Ronaldo to get richer and happier

We are undeniably living in an era where financial might seemingly affects a person’s ability to experience happiness. The heavier the jingle in our pockets, the wider the smile on our faces and now the biggest football player on the player would have an even bigger reason to feel happy. Cristiano Ronaldo, whom reports have linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer, is coveted at such a high level that the club’s president Florentino Perez is willing to make him the highest paid player of the sport in the world.

An imminent salary hike in the range of 50%-70% is enough to take any employee to cloud 9, but since Ronaldo already earns an approximate £200,000 per week, the extra cash in hand might not make much of a difference to his financial might. Here are the current top earners in world football on the basis of weekly salary. Samuel Eto’o who plays on the shores of the Caspian Sea in Dagestan is the highest paid player in the world at present but with half his time spent away from the glam lands of western Europe, he might still end up saving more than Cristiano!

RANK PLAYER SALARY PER WEEK IN £
1 Samuel Eto’o 327,474
2 Zlatan Ibrahimovic 229,354
3 Wayne Rooney 226,112
4 Yaya Toure 212,903
5 Sergio Aguero 204,700
6 Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo ~ 200,000

Table 1 - Highest paid football players

Cristiano’s promotion to the top of the table should no doubt entice him to continue his trade in the Spanish capital as the club attempts to recuperate from a three year cumulative failure that culminated in Mourinho’s sacking. The Portuguese has had a rough time managing the Los Blancos and consequently faced the ire of the front office after failing to deliver a trophy this season.

With Real set to tempt other star players like Bale in the transfer window, it will be interesting to see how far the club is willing to lighten its bulging coffers to strengthen and revamp the squad to challenge for trophies next season.

Real might be the richest club in the world, but it is certainly unwise to pledge a salary of such magnitude on a single players when today’s football is rife with uncertainty. Ronaldo might still belong to Real today but we never know what surprises tomorrow could bring to the club. Till then, let us toast Ronaldo’s tremendous achievement and his already immense wealth which is going to get bigger.
