Luis Suarez: Liverpool striker available again after 10-match suspension
All eyes will be on Luis Suarez when Liverpool travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United in the third round of the Capital One Cup, live on Sky Sports 1HD.
The Uruguay international is available again after completing his 10-match ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic last season and could hardly have found a more high-profile fixture in which to return.
Ahead of the derby, re-live the 2003 League Cup final between Liverpool and Manchester United.
The rivalry between United and Liverpool is one of the most deep-rooted in world football, while Suarez's past clashes with Patrice Evra remain fresh in the memory.
United, meanwhile, appear a team in transition following the departure of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson, with David Moyes under increasing scrutiny in the fledging days of his reign.
Moyes has already suffered defeat at the hands of the Reds in the Premier League this season, while Sunday's 4-1 derby drubbing by Manchester City has left them five points off the pace.
With questions being asked over Moyes' record in key fixtures, a home defeat to Liverpool would be another embarrassing blot on his early United CV.
Man Utd
Robin van Persie will miss Manchester United's tie with Liverpool at Old Trafford.
Van Persie has not recovered from the groin injury that kept him out of Sunday's Premier League defeat at Manchester City.
Manager David Moyes is expected to make changes, with Javier Hernandez, Jonny Evans, Shinji Kagawa, Wilfried Zaha and Anders Lindegaard amongst those hoping to be involved.
Liverpool
Suarez returns to face United in the Capital One Cup after his 10-match ban but Rodgers has yet to decide whether he will start.
Centre-back Daniel Agger is unlikely to be risked as he is still struggling with a side strain which forced him off in Saturday's defeat to Southampton.
Kolo Toure seems the obvious choice to take his place, meaning Rodgers has decisions to make at full-back with Jose Enrique looking to return on the left and Andre Wisdom and Martin Kelly vying for a place on the right.
