Sitaleki Timani: Requires surgery on his broken thumb
Australia lock Sitaleki Timani will miss the three-Test series against the British and Irish Lions after suffering a broken thumb.
The NSW Waratahs player broke his right thumb in Friday's defeat by the Crusaders and requires surgery which will keep him on the sidelines for the matches against the Lions.
Scott Higginbotham is also an injury doubt for Australia as the back-row forward is awaiting the results of scans after dislocating his shoulder two days ago.
He has returned to Brisbane from the Wallabies' pre-Lions series training camp in Sydney and will be reassessed later this week.
Timani and Higginbotham have been replaced in Australia's preliminary squad by Kane Douglas and Ben McCalman
The current 25-strong group will be increased to 31 later this month, with the first Lions Test scheduled for Brisbane on June 22.
