Tom Taylor finishes with a 20-point haul
Canterbury Crusaders rallied late on to grind out a narrow 30-26 win over Melbourne Rebels in Christchurch on Sunday.
Tom Taylor kicked six penalties and a conversion to help the Crusaders to a fifth win from nine matches this season.
The Rebels started well but fell behind on three minutes when Zac Guildford beat three men to the corner and Tyler Bleyendaal stepped through some fragile Melbourne defending 10 minutes later to cross for a second.
Taylor added the conversion for the second try for a 12-0 lead but the Rebels hit back when James O'Connor slotted a simple penalty on 22 and then closed the gap further with a try for Scott Higginbotham after a brilliant Cooper Vuna break.
Taylor slotted two further penalties either side of one for O'Connor just before the interval and there was a further exchange of kicks in the first 10 minutes after the restart.
The Rebels turned the match on its head when Higginbotham offloaded for O'Connor to touch down and hooker Ged Robinson burrowed over following a well-worked line-out to put the visitors ahead for the first time in the match on 56 minutes.
But the introduction of Dan Carter from the Canterbury bench for the final 25 minutes changed the game again.
However, Taylor retained kicking duties and edged the hosts back in front with three more penalties as a lack of discipline from the Melbourne pack cost them dear.
