Story Highlights - Former all-pro lasted just two seasons in Philadelphia
- He was slated to make $15 million in 2013
It was just two years ago that Nnamdi Asomugha was perhaps the biggest prize in NFL free agency.
Now he is once again looking for a job.
The Philadelphia Eagles announced Tuesday they have released the 31-year-old cornerback, once considered one of the best at his position.
Asomugha signed a five-year deal worth up to $60 million in 2011 after eight mostly stellar seasons with the Oakland Raiders and was the biggest name in Philadelphia's blockbuster free agent class that year. But he struggled, as did the Eagles, over the past two seasons, and his release was not surprising.
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said in a statement Tuesday that he and head coach Chip Kelly spoke with Asomugha on Tuesday and the two-time all-pro handled news of his release "with a lot of class."
