FOOTBALL
The two teams have different, but equally effective ways of scoring which make them the league’s two top scorers.
Madrid and Barça have the two most lethal attacks in the league – Barça have scored 82 goals so far this season and Madrid 62 – but their attacking philosophies, and indeed the way they concede goals, are markedly different as the analysis below shows.
HOW ? Leo Messi’s 38 goals are the difference between the two, with Madrid more effective in the air . Curiously, Barça conceded their first goal from a header so far this season in their last league game against Seville, when Botia scored the opener at the Camp Nou. WHEN? Barça have scored most goals half way through the first half and towards the end of the second, whilst Madrid tend to score in the middle of the second half. WHERE? Perhaps rather surprisingly, Barça have scored twice as many long range goals than Madrid, though 25 of the 28 they’ve conceded have been scored form inside their box. HOW ARE THEY SCORING? The two are by far the leading shot makers in the competition, with Madrid shooting more, but Barça proving the more accurate. Barça are by far the team who make most passes, with Madrid third in this table behind second placed Athletic Bilbao. Madrid have, however , made more crosses into the box. *Stats courtesy of the Opta Sports Agency
